Andersonville

Andersonville, Georgia is the site of the Confederate Prison that was called Fort Sumter.  It is in Sumter County in lower middle Georgia.  The cemetery for Fort Sumter is now Andersonville National Cemetery.  This is a must see.  They have a new museum and visitor center that is really nice.  You can learn the story and the tragedy of Fort Sumter.

Each year, the town of Andersonville has two festivals.  We went to the one in October and enjoyed the parade, the craft festival, the food, the demonstrations, the entertainment, and especially the battle re-enactment.  There was so much excitement that our friend Sleeping Wolf couldn't keep his eyes closed.
